Agbiag Ilokano!
Kannadiwan Ylocos Festival. A festivity
where Ilocanoes showcase their talent and rich culture in different competition
facilitated by the Provincial Capitol headed by Governor Ryan Luis Singson.
The Department of Education also played a
large role in Kannawidan because they gave chance to the elementary pupils and
high school students that’s why they signified the start of various
competitions such us traditional tribal rituals, choir and glee club
competition, marching band contest, traditional music ensemble, dance drama,
traditional and folk dances and contemporary dance competition.
I have come to live with this very festive
event especially when it started in 2008. Kannawidan is a tradition now to us because
it seems like everyone was very busy in the preparation of it. In Ilocos Sur
National High School, participants of this event are scattered everywhere to
practice in different fields of contests.
Aside from the competitions, Kannawidan is
also the festival which serves as the chain where the municipalities come
together as one celebrating the culture of Ilocanoes. Every year, there is a
set up place where every town showcases their own product. Kannawidan aims to increases
the demand of these products so with increasing tourist rate.
Of course, it’s much bigger and more
grandiose than Vigan Fiesta since its scope is the whole Ilocos Sur Province. Kannawidan
is simply where Ilocanoes commemorate the rich culture that we have. This
festival really take out the Ilocano in me and with that I’m proud to say that
I’m a Bigueno, I’m a Ilocano.
